Terms

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern access to and use of the BillLens website, applications, and related services.

Last updated: June 16, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, uploading a utility bill, purchasing a paid plan, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access or use the Service.

2. Service Description

BillLens provides software tools that use automated document processing, optical character recognition, rule-based extraction, and artificial intelligence systems to read utility bill documents and generate summaries, explanations, comparisons, and observations.

BillLens is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any utility company, including AEP Ohio. Company names and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners and are used only to identify supported bill formats or reference a utility provider.

3. Informational Use Only

BillLens is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It does not provide legal, financial, tax, accounting, energy procurement, or utility-rate advice. Outputs may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, or incorrect due to document quality, OCR limitations, model error, formatting variations, utility tariff complexity, or other reasons.

You are solely responsible for reviewing your original utility bill and confirming any amounts, charges, dates, usage values, rider details, credits, taxes, or recommendations directly with your utility provider or another qualified professional before making decisions or taking action.

BillLens does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, or fitness of any output for a particular purpose.

Energy supplier information. Some BillLens features include information about your current electricity supply rate compared to available alternatives. This is for educational purposes only. BillLens is not an energy broker, energy agent, competitive retail electric service provider (CRES provider), or energy consultant. BillLens is not registered with or endorsed by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). Any supplier-related information shown is based solely on data extracted from your uploaded bill and is not connected to live AEP Ohio pricing systems or PUCO-registered supplier offers. Do not rely on BillLens analysis as the sole basis for switching energy suppliers.

Ohio utility assistance eligibility. The bill assistance screening feature provides an approximate eligibility indication for Ohio assistance programs such as PIPP and HEAP, based on information you voluntarily provide. This is not an official eligibility determination. Contact your utility provider or visit EnergyHelp Ohio for an official assessment and enrollment.

4. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding agreement to use the Service.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate registration information and promptly update it if it changes.

BillLens may suspend or terminate accounts that contain false information, present security risks, violate these Terms, or appear to be used for fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access.

5. User Uploads and Permissions

You may upload utility bills, screenshots, PDFs, images, and related materials ("User Content") only if you have the lawful right and authority to provide them to BillLens for processing.

By uploading User Content, you grant BillLens a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, process, reproduce, analyze, transmit, and display the User Content solely to:

  • operate and provide the Service
  • generate requested analyses and account features
  • maintain security, debugging, fraud prevention, and abuse detection
  • improve extraction quality, model routing, and system reliability using de-identified or aggregated information where practical
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce these Terms

You represent and warrant that uploading User Content does not violate any law, contract, privacy right, or third-party right.

6. Prohibited Conduct

You must not:

  • use the Service for unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive, or abusive purposes
  • upload malicious code, corrupted files, or content designed to interfere with the Service
  • attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, copy, benchmark, or exploit the Service except as allowed by applicable law
  • use automated means to create accounts, overwhelm infrastructure, or bypass rate limits or usage restrictions
  • upload documents belonging to other persons without authority
  • use BillLens outputs to mislead customers, utilities, regulators, lenders, or other third parties
  • interfere with security features, authentication, billing systems, or access controls

7. Paid Plans, Billing, and Renewals

BillLens offers free and paid subscription plans. Pricing, features, usage limits, and billing intervals are disclosed at the time of purchase and may be updated prospectively.

Founding access pricing. Customers who subscribe during the founding access period receive a 50% discount on the standard monthly rate while they remain continuously subscribed. If a founding customer cancels, the founding rate is not guaranteed upon resubscription. Pricing for new subscribers and resubscriptions may differ from founding rates.

Unless otherwise stated at checkout, paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period until canceled.

You authorize BillLens and its payment processor to charge your selected payment method for recurring subscription fees and any other disclosed charges. If payment cannot be completed, BillLens may suspend or downgrade access to paid features until payment is successfully processed.

8. Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Unless otherwise stated at checkout or required by law, cancellation stops future renewals but does not automatically create a prorated refund for the current billing period. You retain Plus access until the end of the current billing period.

If you believe you were charged in error, contact help@bill-lens.com within 14 days of the charge and we will review it.

Upon cancellation or downgrade from a paid plan, saved analyses, upload quotas, and retention periods may be reduced to the limits of the free plan. Certain billing, transaction, and compliance records may be retained as required by law.

9. Third-Party Services

BillLens relies on third-party services to operate, including:

  • Railway - cloud hosting and infrastructure
  • Stripe - payment processing and subscription billing
  • Resend - email delivery
  • Meta (Facebook) - advertising measurement via the Meta pixel
  • Anthropic - artificial intelligence services for document analysis

These providers process User Content or personal information on BillLens's behalf as needed to provide the Service. BillLens is not responsible for downtime, errors, policy changes, or acts or omissions of third-party services, except to the extent required by law.

10. Privacy

BillLens's collection, use, disclosure, and retention of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

11. Intellectual Property

BillLens and the Service, including software, interfaces, workflows, text, graphics, branding, and underlying technology, are owned by BillLens or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited right to use the Service under these Terms, no rights are granted to you.

12. Feedback

If you provide comments, suggestions, bug reports, or other feedback, BillLens may use that feedback without restriction or compensation, provided that doing so does not require identifying you.

13. Availability and Changes

BillLens may modify, suspend, discontinue, or update any feature of the Service at any time. For material changes to these Terms:

  • changes affecting new users take effect when posted
  • changes affecting existing paid subscribers take effect on the next renewal date after notice, unless earlier changes are required by law or necessary for security
  • BillLens will use reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of material adverse changes through the website, email, or the account interface

Continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, BillLens disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Without limiting the foregoing, BillLens does not warrant that bill parsing, OCR, AI outputs, rider classifications, savings estimates, supplier rate comparisons, assistance eligibility screenings, or recommended next steps will be correct, complete, or suitable for any financial, household, legal, or regulatory decision.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BillLens and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, licensors, and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, utility service outcomes, rebates, credits, or savings, arising out of or related to the Service.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the total aggregate liability of BillLens for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of: (A) the amount paid by you to BillLens in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or (B) $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

16. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless BillLens and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, licensors, and service providers from and against claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to your User Content, your use or misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

17. Dispute Resolution

Before starting a formal legal claim, you must first send a written notice of dispute to help@bill-lens.com and allow at least 30 days for informal resolution.

If the dispute is not resolved informally, and except for claims eligible for small claims court, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, which are available at adr.org. Arbitration may be conducted remotely or at a location reasonably convenient to you. BillLens will pay all AAA filing, administrative, and arbitrator fees for claims that do not exceed $10,000. Each party is responsible for its own attorneys' fees unless the arbitrator finds a claim or defense frivolous.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, disputes must be brought on an individual basis. Class actions, collective actions, representative actions, and private attorney general actions are waived.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent preempted or overridden by applicable consumer protection laws.

19. Termination

BillLens may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if BillLens reasonably believes you violated these Terms, created risk, failed to pay amounts due, or used the Service in a way that could harm BillLens, other users, or third parties.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Sections relating to payment obligations, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, dispute resolution, and retained records survive termination.

20. Electronic Communications

You agree to receive electronic communications related to the Service, including account notices, billing notices, legal notices, and service announcements, by email or posting in the account interface.

21. General Terms

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. No waiver of any provision is a continuing waiver or waiver of any other provision. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any plan-specific terms presented at checkout, constitute the entire agreement between BillLens and you regarding the Service.
